The Push cart… and how we use to do it
Someone would push me once around the block, then I would push them around the block… funny… but it seems to me that the other kids would get out of breath doing that… but I was tireless, when it was my turn to push I would push them around the block so fast they would still have not caught their breaths by the time it was time for them to push me again.

This is almost “identical” to what I made, after I finished my episodes of rolling those tires (same kind of wood, and 2×8 as well, one bolt through the wood, and rope to steer it, and basically the same kind of tires).
how the whole thing would look if you had good wood.
Then I had an idea… I got this idea after only seeing a friend’s father making one for his own son… clearly his father was trying to out-do all of the rest of us for his son… I was furious, he was cheating, the rest of us had made our own push carts, that’s what made it FUN… right then, I decided to beat him at the game!
Building a “steerable” push cart
That’s right… I put a “steering wheel” on my cart too… only mine was better, the overall design of mine was just simply better. I put a wheel on a broomstick, and stuck the stick through a piece of 1x8x16 inch board I found and nailed to the push cart much in the same way you see the steering wheel on the dashboard in a car… I chiseled a hole in the wood for the broomstick to go through using a screwdriver and a hammer (yes I did all of this at about 9 or 10 years old), and I used two pulley’s to guid the rope through, unlike Mr. Jackson who used to “eye screws” to guide the rope. I guided the rope through the pulleys and wrapped it several times around the broomstick handle and connected it to each side of the front axle… the only problem was, when you turned the steering wheel “left” it cut the front axle to the “right”! I’ll tell you now, it took me the longest time to figure out how to make the axle turn “left” when you turn the steering wheel left. And that’s all I’m going to say on that… I’m going to leave it up to you to figure out how “you” would have fixed it so it would turn correctly using only “rope” and “pulleys”.
